County Physical Therapy has been measuring and fitting patients for custom orthotics for over 7 years. An orthotic is a custom made foot bed fabricated to fit your foot only. The orthotic can be made of different materials to accommodate your specific foot dysfunction and foot type. Like having your car aligned, your feet occasionally need aligning too.
A specific evaluation is performed to assess your foot posture and how you walk. Once this is done, measurements and an impression of your feet are taken in a foam block. This is the most important aspect of the evaluation so that tender areas can be off-loaded and mal-aligned areas can be straightened out.
After the evaluation has been performed, and the impressions taken, the orthotics are fabricated within 1.5-2 weeks and we see you again for a fitting. Some orthotics may require a slight adjustment when you receive them but most don’t. Once your orthotics have been fitted in your shoes, you will be given instructions on the proper break-in procedure and you will begin using your new orthotics.
Common foot problems treated with orthotics:
- Plantar Fascitis (pain in the heel or arch)
- Metatarsalgia (pain in the ball of the foot)
- High arches and low arches
- Achilles tendonitis (pain behind the heel and up the back of the leg)
- Certain knee and hip problems
- Ligament and tendon injuries of the foot and ankle
