County Physical Therapy offers Functional Capacity Evaluations by certified physical and occupational therapists. A functional capacity evaluation or FCE is an objective assessment used to determine an individual’s ability to perform general functional activities or work-related tasks.
An FCE is a standardized test. The test takes approximately 3-4 hours. Clients taking the test will be required to wear comfortable clothing and footwear. Clients will wear a heart rate monitor during the test in order to monitor vitals continuously during all tasks completed. Clients will be completing a variety of tasks including the following:
- Overhead activity
- Stare climbing
All tasks are demonstrated to the client. Tasks are to be completed with proper body mechanics. The importance of the test is for the therapist to determine what the client is able to do safely. Once the test is completed the therapist is able to assist physicians in determining work restrictions or modifications based on the objective data gathered during the evaluation.
